$FB's R&D expense in 1Q16 rose 26% to $1.34Bil compared to the same period in 2015. The majority of the increase was related to the increase in payroll and benefits expenses resulting from a 37% growth in employee headcount from March 31, 2015 to March 31, 2016. Additionally, $FB's equipment and related expenses rose $37MM for the quarter.
$MCD stock rose more than 2% after it posted better than expected 3Q16 results, driven by global same-store sales growth. Meanwhile, earnings and revenue were lower than last year, hurt by refranchising efforts.
